Listing standards & verification methodology

What's required to be listed

• Valid, checkable electrical contractor license in the state(s) you operate in
• A real, specific business description, not boilerplate copy-pasted across listings
• A working phone number or email for customer contact
• A defined service area (specific cities/counties, not just "statewide")
• At least one verifiable year of business operation

What we actually check

For every listing, we confirm the stated license number is active and in good standing directly on the relevant state electrical contractor licensing board's own public lookup tool. We also confirm the listed phone number connects to the business. Listings are reviewed manually before publication, most submissions are reviewed within 5 business days.

Sources we use

State electrical contractor licensing boards' public records are our primary source, the same public record a homeowner could look up themselves. We do not copy business descriptions, photos, or reviews from other directories or platforms, every listing's description is either written by the business or by LumoWatt staff from a direct conversation with the business.

How often we re-check

We re-verify license status annually, or immediately if we receive a correction request. Each listing shows the date it was last checked.

What "license-checked" does and doesn't mean

It means:we confirmed the business's electrical contractor license was active and in good standing on the state board's own records as of the listed verification date.

It does not mean: we verify insurance coverage, bonding, the quality of past work, customer satisfaction, or that nothing has changed since the date we checked. It is not a guarantee, endorsement, or warranty of any kind.

Before you hire anyone

Independently confirm current licensing, insurance, warranty terms, pricing, and contract terms directly with any installer before signing anything, regardless of what a directory (including this one) shows.
