Minnesota's outage risk is driven by severe winter ice storms and heavy snow loads across the state, summer derecho and severe-thunderstorm wind events in the Twin Cities metro, and a distinct northern climate around Duluth and the Lake Superior shore where lake-effect snow, ice, and winter storm intensity regularly extend outages beyond what the southern metro experiences.
